I volontari Sma e la Biblioteca africana a Genova

Creata nel 1992 nella sede della Società delle Missioni Africane (S.M.A.) è una biblioteca specializzata sull’Africa, nei suoi vari aspetti: storia, letteratura, etnologia, arte, società, religione. A disposizione dei lettori ci sono 9.500 volumi e 300 riviste, delle quali 40 correnti. La Biblioteca funziona anche grazie al servizio di alcuni volontari e volontarie.

La Biblioteca africana Borghero ha recentemente iniziato una nuova attività rivolta alle scuole. Il lungo lavoro di catalogazione in internet degli oltre 10.000 volumi è terminato e ora, si ha più tempo per rivolgersi all’esterno e portare direttamente i libri e la conoscenza della cultura africana a chi è interessato.

Da quest’anno, con p. Filippo Drogo e Beatrice Quaranta, abbiamo iniziato la lettura delle favole africane in diverse scuole elementari di Genova. Ma non solo.  Il progetto, dal titolo “le fiabe hanno le gambe lunghe” si è poi in realtà esteso ad un discorso sull’amicizia e sul relativismo culturale.

La Biblioteca africana Borghero possiede un piccolo patrimonio di favole, poco conosciute, e divise per paese di provenienza. È stato facile iniziare il nostro viaggio attraverso le favole, con una cartina dell’Africa alle spalle.

Partendo da Genova, punto di decollo e di ritorno, ci siamo spostati prima nel nord Africa poi, utilizzando i mezzi di trasporto che le favole suggerivano (cammelli, tappeti volanti, piroghe) ci siamo ritrovati in Senegal, Costa d’Avorio, Benin, poi in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia e in Sudafrica.

In ogni paese una favola diversa, una lingua nuova, usi e costumi differenti sui quali soffermarsi a chiacchierare un po’. Alla lettura delle favole, abbiamo alternato la proiezioni di filmati sulla scuola di un villaggio del nord della Costa d’Avorio, occasione per parlare della naturale difficoltà ad accettare l’altro che ci dà fastidio e che non è come lo vorremo perché ha abitudini diverse dalle nostre. Infine, il filmato, che ha riscosso grande successo, sulla costruzione dei giocatoli realizzati con materiale di riciclo, lattine, pneumatici, penne biro.

Diversità culturali che se conosciute fanno meno paura. Si parte da un corretto uso del linguaggio, rivolgendosi all’altro con curiosità e rispetto. Come insegna la favola “La  giraffa vanitosa”, senza l’aiuto dell’altro non si puo’ raggiungere  alcun obiettivo. Solo nella collaborazione, nell’amicizia  e nell’armonia c’è la soluzione.

I bambini hanno fatto disegni, colorato, dato preziose interpretazioni sulla morale delle diverse favole..

La biblioteca che portiamo dentro la valigia, si fa conoscere nelle scuole, è aperta dai bambini con curiosità, porta via alcuni pregiudizi, fa incontrare un altro punto di vista.

L’incontro è assolutamente reciproco. Si torna a casa avendo imparato molto e i libri, dallo scaffale, trovano vita se aperti e letti. Lasciano un ricordo che dura nel tempo.

L’anno prossimo aspettiamo qui in biblioteca, tutti i bambini che abbiamo incontrato, per un altro viaggio tra le favole africane. Il finale puo’ cambiare ogni volta. Basta un po’ di fantasia.

Volunteers Sma and the African Library in Genoa

Created in 1992, in the house of the Society of African Missions ( SMA),  the African Library Borghero is a specialized library about Africa, in all its aspects: history, literature, anthropology, art, society, religion. At the disposal of readers there are 9,500 volumes and 300 journals. The library will also works thanks to the service of volunteers.

The Library Borghero has recently started a new activity for the schools. The long process of cataloging in Internet of about 10,000 volumes has finished and now volunteers have more time to go outside and bring directly the books and knowledge of African culture to those interested..

From this year, Ludovica with Father Filippo Drogo and Beatrice Quaranta started reading the stories of Africa in several primary schools in Genoa. But not only. The project, titled " fairy tales have long legs ," was extended to a talk about friendship and cultural relativism.

The Library has a heritage of fairy tales, not very known, and divided according to the country of origin. It was easy to begin our journey through fairy tales, with a map of Africa on the wall of the classroom.

We leave from Genoa, and we return back to Genoa, first we moved to North Africa and then, using the means of transport that fairy tales suggested ( camels, flying carpets, canoes ), we found ourselves in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Benin, then in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and South Africa.

In each country a different story, a new language, different customs and traditions on which to stop and chat for a while '. We alternated to the reading of fairy tales, the movie about school in a small village in the north of Ivory Coast,  All was an opportunity to speak about the difficulty in accepting other people that bothers us because he is not how we would like,  because he has different habits from ours. Finally, we showed the movie, which had a great success, about the

construction of toys made ​​from recycled materials, cans, tires,  pens.
We don’t fear cultural diversity, if known. It starts from a correct use of language, speaking each other with curiosity and respect. As taught by the moral fable " The vain giraffe," without the help of the other, it cannot achieve any aim. Only co-operating, with friendship and harmony is the solution.

The children made colorful drawings, , and they gave precious suggestions about the message of each  moral fables.

The library that we carry inside our suitcase in the schools, is opened by children with curiosity, takes away some prejudices, and it allows meeting another point of view.

And the meeting is absolutely mutual, we come back home having learned a lot and books find life if opened and read. They leave a trace that lasts for long time.

Next year we expect, here in the library, all the kids we met, for another journey through the African fairy tales. The end can change each time. We need only  a little imagination.

Les bénévoles Sma et la Bibliothèque africaine à Gênes

Créé en 1992 dans le siège de la Société des Missions Africaines ( SMA ) la  bibliothèque est spécialisée sur l'Afrique, dans tous ses aspects: l'histoire, la littérature, l'anthropologie, l'art, la société, la religion. À la disposition des lecteurs, il y a 9.500 volumes et 300 périodiques, dont 40 courants. La bibliothèque fonctionne également grâce au service des bénévoles .

La Bibliothèque africaine Borghero a récemment commencé une nouvelle activité destiné aux écoles. Le long processus de catalogage Internet de plus de 10.000 volumes est terminé et maintenant on a plus de temps pour faire appel directement à l'extérieur et apporter les livres et la connaissance de la culture africaine à ceux qui sont intéressés.

Depuis cette année, avec le Père Filippo Drogo e Beatrice Quaranta, nous avons commencé à lire des contes africains dans plusieurs écoles primaires de Gênes. Mais pas seulement. Le projet, intitulé « Les contes de fées ont de longues jambes" est devenu en réalité un discours sur l’amitié et le relativisme culturel.

La bibliothèque africaine Borghero dispose d'un petit patrimoine de contes, peu connues, et divisées par pays d'origine. Il a était facile commencer notre voyage à travers les contes, avec une carte de l'Afrique derrière NOUS.

Ayant Gênes comme point de départ et point de retour, nous avons visité l’Afrique du Nord, puis, en utilisant les moyens de transport que les contes ont suggéré (chameaux, des tapis volants, des canoës ), nous nous sommes retrouvés au Sénégal, Côte-d'Ivoire, le Bénin, puis en Ouganda, au Kenya, en Zambie et en Afrique du Sud.

Dans chaque pays, une autre histoire, une nouvelle langue, des coutumes et des traditions sur lesquelles s'arrêter et bavarder pendant un certain temps. A la lecture des contes, nous avons alterné les projections de films sur l'école d’un village dans le nord de Côte-d'Ivoire, occasion de parler de la difficulté naturelle à accepter l'autre qui nous dérange et qui n'est pas comme nous voudrions, parce qu'il a des habitudes différentes des nôtres. Enfin, le film, qui a été un grand succès, sur la construction de jouets fabriqués à partir de matériaux recyclés, des canettes, des pneus, des stylos à bille.

Il y a des différences culturelles, qui nous font moins peur, si elles sont connus. Démarrer avec une bonne utilisation de la langue, en s'adressant à l'autre avec curiosité et respect. Ainsi est l'enseignement de la Fable « la girafe vaine », sans l'aide de l'autre il est impossible d'atteindre n'importe quel but. Seulement en collaboration, dans l'amitié et l'harmonie on trouve la solution.

Les enfants ont fait des dessins, coloré et ont donné des interprétations précieuses sur différentes fables morales ..

La bibliothèque que nous portons à l'intérieur de notre valise, se fait connaître dans les écoles, elle est ouverte par les enfants avec curiosité, met un autre point de vue., enlève certains préjugés.

La rencontre est tout à fait réciproque. Tout le monde rentre à la maison, non sans avoir beaucoup appris. Les livres sur l'étagère, ont trouvé la vie quand ils sont ouverts et lus. Ils laissent un souvenir qui dure dans le temps.

L'année prochaine, nous attendons ici dans la bibliothèque, tous les enfants que nous avons rencontrés, pour un autre voyage à travers les fables africaines. La fin de l'histoire peut changer à chaque fois. Juste un peu d'imagination.
